What Is TrustPick? A Beginner’s Guide to Checking Ingredients and Their Regulatory Status
What TrustPick does, and three practical ways to see what’s in a product and how each ingredient is regulated in India, the EU, the US and Canada: scan a barcode, photograph a label, or search an ingredient directly.
Most ingredient lists are written for regulators, not shoppers. A carton of juice might list “INS 330” instead of citric acid, or bury an allergen inside a compound ingredient in parentheses. TrustPick exists to close that gap: point your phone at a product, and get back a plain-language read on what's actually inside it.
What TrustPick actually does
At its core, TrustPick does three things with every product you check:
- Pulls the real ingredient list — either from TrustPick's own product database, or straight off the label if it's a product TrustPick hasn't seen before.
- Summarises each ingredient's regulatory status in India (FSSAI), the EU, the US (FDA) and Canada, using an AI model, and keeps anything else worth knowing separate from that status.
- Gives you an independent result — no known regulatory concern, worth noting, or restricted — worked out by the same published rules for every product, regardless of who makes it or whether it's a sponsored listing.
Example scan
Choco-fill cookies, 75 g
- 1Refined wheat flourNo concern
- 2Sugar31 g per 100 gWorth noting
- 3Palm oilHigh in saturated fatWorth noting
- 4Cocoa solidsNo concern
- 5Caramel colour (INS 150d)Permitted with limitsWorth noting
- 6Emulsifier (INS 322, soy)Contains soyNo concern
A TrustPick result: the flagged ingredients, why they're flagged, and an overall rating — all in one place.
Three ways to check a product's ingredients
You don't need a barcode or even the physical product in hand. TrustPick supports three starting points, depending on what you're holding:
Scan the barcode
Point your camera at the barcode. TrustPick looks the product up and pulls its ingredient list, nutrition facts, and brand details automatically — no typing required.
Photograph the label
No barcode, or the product isn’t in TrustPick’s database yet? Photograph the ingredients panel directly. TrustPick reads the text off the label itself and analyses it the same way.
Search an ingredient by name
Curious about one specific ingredient — not a whole product? Type it in directly and get the same plain-language regulatory context, without needing anything to scan.
Why bother checking at all?
Ingredient names aren't always self-explanatory, and the same additive can be perfectly fine for most people and worth avoiding for others — a specific allergy, a dietary restriction, or a preference you've set for yourself. TrustPick lets you set those preferences once, so the same ingredient list that looks unremarkable to someone else can come back flagged for you specifically.
None of this is about telling you what to buy. It's about seeing the same information the manufacturer already put on the label — just organized in a way that's actually readable before the product is in your cart, not after.
