About food & beverages in India
In India, packaged food is regulated by FSSAI. Labels must carry the ingredient list, nutrition information, the vegetarian or non-vegetarian symbol and the manufacturer’s FSSAI licence number, and additives are usually listed by their function and INS number, for example “Emulsifier (INS 322)”. Products here come from retailer listings and from labels scanned by TrustPick users.
India’s rules differ from other markets in places. Potassium bromate, which the US FDA still allows in flour, was banned in India in 2016, while titanium dioxide, banned in EU food since 2022, remains permitted in some foods under FSSAI rules.
Every product page lists the ingredients in label order, nutrition per 100 g (and per serving where the label gives one), and, once a product has been analysed, how each ingredient is treated by regulators in India, the EU, the US and Canada.
Worth checking on the label
- Sugar, sodium and saturated fat per 100 g, which makes products of different pack sizes comparable
- Additives by name or code (INS / E numbers), and whether any carry limits or warnings somewhere
- Allergens, which are often inside compound ingredients in brackets
