About supplements & vitamins in the United States

In the United States, dietary supplements are regulated by the FDA as a kind of food. They carry a Supplement Facts panel and, unlike medicines, aren’t approved by the FDA before they’re sold: the manufacturer is responsible for their safety and claims. Products here are added as TrustPick users scan them.

Product pages list the ingredients as printed, including capsule shells, sweeteners and flavours, and, once analysed, the regulatory status of each under the supplement and food rules of India, the EU, the US and Canada. TrustPick doesn’t review medicines or give dosing advice: the label and your doctor or pharmacist come first.

Worth checking on the label

  • The amount per serving against the recommended daily usage on the label, so you don’t double up across two products
  • Sweeteners, colours, and gelatine or fish-derived capsules if you avoid them
  • Health claims, which aren’t checked the way medicine claims are
